HIVE-11667 introduced a check for snapshots of a Hdfs directory to enable truncating snapshotted Hive tables.
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HDFS-12257 will introduce a public API to check for the same. Once it is resolved we should switch to it in Hive.
