newsletter subscription
Hi,
I am new to ofbiz.I want to use newsletter subscription but I am not able to
do that.Can someone suggest me the basic steps to activate this?

Thanks so much for the website.
RE the code: I created an entirely new component because I do lots more
than just support mailing lists etc. I guess when I get ready to
document it, I could figure out a way to separate out the code - it is
mostly just screens (all Freemarker, btw). So, I'll see. I'm pretty busy
right now working on other OFBiz documentation projects including
updating the books.

I was speaking about the code, (is it really so bad that it can be contributed?) but the documentation is almost important.
It's done for the books images. I struggled because the preview was not working well, without speaking about the Rich Text Editor.
But fortunately, finally when I save all was good.

1) Thanks for the endorsement and your support. It is people like you
who make this all worthwhile!
2) Just to clarify, there are 2 OFBiz manufacturing documents - and
introductory piece that is available via the survey (free) and a full
length book (130+ pages) that costs $39.95USD. Both written by Sharan.
3) I've put this on my list to start next week as soon as I finish the
9.04 updates to the ecommerce book: A free short piece (5-10 pages) on
how to use the existing OFBiz features/functions to support mailing
lists and email campaigns. Sharan and I call these our "5 Step Guides".
I'll give it back to the community and post it on the Wiki. I'll also
put it on my website.
After I finish that, I'll put together a more comprehensive piece on
some things I did to augment OFBiz to make the mailing list features
work for me and meet my business needs.
I'll announce something on the list as soon as the first piece is done.

I did read the EXTRA, it was good. Also ordered the RSS Guide. BTW,
the MFR guide seems to be free in the library and costs elsewhere, FYI.

If you like the way in which I've done the E-books - I mean the detail
and the manner in which they are presented - then that takes time to
assemble. What I have in mind is something similar to a recent e-book I
just put on the shopping site (yes it costs $9.95) called "How To Add An
RSS Feed in 5 Easy Steps".

This one is 16 pages long, but I think to do the mailing list
application justice it would probably take about 30-40 pages and sell
for, maybe +/- $15USD.

running with it, well worth it to me. But I can't finance 2-3 weeks

doubt there is all that much change in this area. We know the screens

I guess I need to preface all this with: I don't use 10.4 or any version
of OFBiz from the 10.4 branch. I have not upgraded to Java 1.6 and I'm
not going to for my production server so I'm strictly talking about 9.04.
To your question: Sorry, I don't understand. Do you want me to tell you
which webapps and which OFBiz screens to use from 9.04? Or which
services? I certainly can do that. It would still take some time as its
been awhile since I looked at all this. (Of course I did that when I set
about putting together my own tools.)
If you are talking about sharing the screens I developed, I could do
that. I'm not sure how useful they would be out of context. But, I could
set up a web page on myofbiz.com to share Freemarker templates. I think
you'd be better served however if I started with screen shots of my web
pages and explained how I do what I do.
Just some thoughts.

Are you referring to the cost associated with doing the document or with
tidying up the code?
I'm not in a position to do the later any time soon and haven't given
that any thought.
As to the putting together some documentation the cost (and effort)
associated with doing this would depend on how detailed you'd like to
see it. To do the topic justice and cover it as thoroughly as I am prone
to do, it would take at least 2 weeks to write/test and another week to
format and get ready to publish. I don't like to just throw stuff out
there...at least not content that people are going to pay for.
What are you looking for? A step-by-step guide to using the existing
OFBiz functionality - where it exists?
Please let me know and I'll give it all more consideration.

The newsletter ("Contact List" and "Communications Event") User
Interface features of OFBiz are not too well developed. If you are
interested in this capability you are going to have to do a little bit
of digging as Jacques suggests.
If there is enough interest (read, someone is willing to pay for it or I
have some free time) I will do a write up on how to use this. I've
developed my own UI that front-end's the OFBiz Content Manager and Party
Manager set of services (this is where most of this functionality
resides) and it works very nicely to support an unlimited number of
newsletter subscription types, subscribers and even un-subscribing. The
only thing left for me to do is come up with the content for the
newsletters :-)

Of course this means to look into how seed demo data are organized and from there find your own way...
