Whatever the result of https://s.apache.org/beam-job-api, it is an interesting exercise to also be able to submit to the Java DirectRunner. With cross-language submission and mixed-language pipelines, which DirectRunner is best for debugging problems may vary. Kind of a funky space to be in!
