On the Regional Climate Model Evaluation System/Water Resource Management project at JPL we have baked up a File Manager catalog that builds a database of paramaters, datasets, granules, and the actual dimensional data they store. The relationships between these objects are also created.
I'll throw up a patch that contributes this back to the File Manager core as an out of the box useable catalog.

Resolution: Fixed
- added a corresponding ScienceDataCatalog, ScienceDataValidationLayer, and ScienceDataRepositoryManager in r1131650. Also added sample schema, and configuration updates to filemgr.properties.
Would be great to have some unit test coverage, but I don't have time to add it now. Would love for someone to add it later and improve.
