Xalan/Xerces incompatibilities...

Hi,

We've been using Lenya for awhile now and it works. Now, we need to install
uPortal (2.5.0). Unfortunately, they use different versions of Xalan/Xerces,
etc. and since both require the libs to be in the "endorsed" dirs (uPortal
requires them to be in jre/lib/endorsed and uPortal/Lenya require them to be in
tomcat/common/endorsed) there's no way I can see to make both of them work on
the same system. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get around this apart
from installing two copies of the same jdk and two copies of tomcat?

Thanks,
-mm

Hi,

After working with it a little more, I discovered that it was a problem with
xercesImpl.jar. uPortal uses a strange xercesImpl with classes all under
com.sun.apache... I couldn't get lenya to work with uPortal's xalan because
it's older, and I couldn't get uPortal to work with lenya's xalan either, so
what I ended up doing is installing xalan-2.7.0, including its xercesImpl.jar as
xercesImpl-2.7.0.jar, and uPortal's xercesImpl.jar (I was able to do that
because those two jars don't interfere with each other). Everything seems to be
working now.

Thanks,

in the case of XSLT you might want to try using XSLTC within
Lenya, but AFAIK XSLTC has some issues, but it might work with
your specific XSLTS. Otherwise I guess on can only try start debugging
and upgrade one or the other version

I would assume that Xerces shouldn't cause a problem, because I don't
think Lenya is very special there, but I might be wrong ...
