Resolving PDFBox issues

Hi,

I'm officially not a PDFBox committer, so I would typically avoid
using my commit karma to resolve technical issues. However, to speed
up progress towards the 0.8.0 release I'm temporarily extending my
mentor role to cover also simple technical issues that don't require
too much PDF expertise.
