Summary: Helpful if option for Host aliases to send redirect
Product: Tomcat 5
Version: 5.0.29
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: Catalina
AssignedTo: tomcat-dev@jakarta.apache.org
ReportedBy: sam@redspr.com
It would be helpful to have an option for the Host valve
that would send a permanent redirect when a request matches a host
alias.
This is useful to help search engines etc that apache.org would redirect
to www.apache.org so making it clear that they are the same entity.
Since this seems like a common requirement and the alias is already defined
in server.xml so tidy to implement it in the container.
NB Seems pretty safe for GETs to redirect using the original path and query
string. Im not sure about POSTs might be more problematic.
