getLogger() method is null

Hi,
I am using CVS version 11/25/2002+Tomcat4.1.12+JDK1.4. My cocoon servlet stucks because the method getLogger() is null in the ExcaliburComponentManager class (method configure).
How should I modify my configurations files (web.xml, cocoon.xml) in order to launch the servlet ?
