Note: votes for issues are definitely the best way to gauge what issues 
the community thinks are important -- but no matter how many votes an 
issue gets, if no one volunteers to work on the issue and provide a patch, 
there's never going to be any progress ... it's just a fact of life.  

On some occasions a member of the community might have an oportunity to 
write and contribute a patch for a feature he doesn't personally have a 
need for just because a lot of other people have asked for it and he 
thinks it sounds cool ... but that tends to happen fairly rarely.  

If people have an itch, they need to be proactive about scratching it.
