Linux question

I am trying to capture a hard drive image with Partimage. The only problem
is I installed it to LVM and now Partimage won't recognize it. Can I switch
to ext3 w/o losing the data, or is there a trick to getting Partimage to see
LVM?

Thanks.

Cameron,

For VCL's purposes - deploying images for short durations, LVM doesn't really
provide any benefit. LVM adds a logical layer between the filesystem and the
physical storage so you can do things like have a single partition span
multiple disks or easily resizing a partition to include more of the physical
disk than it did at creation time. For short durations, these things aren't
particularly useful; so, we've not looked into using any other imaging
software, such as Clonezilla, that would allow imaging of LVM systems.

To any who are interested, the open source tool "Clonezilla" works with
LVM2 (not LVM1) very well. It may not be as robust as Partimage, but many
people are using LVM now, so it is a solution. I'm still not clear on the
benefits of LVM to be honest.

Cameron,

partimage cannot handle partitions installed under LVM. You need to install
it with ext3 directly.
