Patch coming shortly.

This is a bit of a change since we'd now recommend that users always call this at startup / shutdown ... not sure of the best way to handle that for people that don't.

I guess that'd make this a change for 1.4?

My subsequent changes will depend on this (memory allocation routing and atom table).
