The power of cocoon?

Can someone give me a sample of the power of
cocoon? What i want to do is create a simple table
taken from
http://www.slashdot.org/slashdot.xml

I have cocoon installed with the demos working
but can not bridge the gap to making this slashdot
example work for me.

I'm sure that this is child's play for you
more experienced cocoon users out there.
thanks in advance.
