"Excel Reporter" - any users?

There was a post just recently about usage of an "Excel Reporter" tool.
It appears that this tool is linked to an older version of Cocoon; I
have
tried to incorporate it into a more recent version of Cocoon, but am 
getting errors generated by the custom-written serializer.
 
The project was developed in 2003, and is described here:

I was wondering if anyone had had any success in adapting this tool
to run alongside a more recent version of Cocoon.
