Logging stack traces

Hi,
   In the hope that this isn't a lame question which I'll regret asking:

How can I log a stack trace from an exception? Normally I have to pass the
printStackTrace method a PrintWriter, which is fine for System.out, but not
for log.debug...

Any help appreciated,
