Subversion installation

Dear Colleagues,

I am presently trying to install subversion-1.1.3-10.i586.rpm on one of my
servers (SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (i586) VERSION = 9 PATCHLEVEL = 3).
I have been able to resolve other software dependencies by installing the
other packages like, libapr0-2.0.53-9.i586.rpm, neon-0.24.7-6.i586.rpm and
swig-1.3.21-110.i586.rpm. The last conflict that I am confronted with is
the upgrade requirement of subversion-1.1.3-10.i586.rpm from libdb-4.2.52
to libdb-4.3.so, which is needed by subversion-1.1.3-10, which
deinstallation causes a lot of pandemonium in the said system. I would be
very grateful if anybody could assist me in the resolution of this
conflict.

Thanks much,

Jun

If you are doing a fresh installation, you should not use such an old
version. If you try to use a newer rpm, your rpm hell will likely
increase tenfold, though.

So you want to deinstall libdb-4.2.52 in order to install libdb-4.3?
Do you have an rpm for 4.3? Can't you do an upgrade install?

When I get into situations like this on my RHEL boxes, I just start
compiling the stuff I need into /opt and forget about using their out
of date rpms.
