I, too, am having this issue, and it has actually halted us in our tracks in a project I'm working on.  Our web services group is using an earlier version of Axis that properly wraps simpleType's with restrictions.  Trying to get around an intermittent NullPointerException in Axis's attachment handling code (a bug that may have been fixed in the latest beta), I tried the latest beta, only to hit this issue.

I wouldn't call this a "Minor" bug.

Description:
running WSDL2Java on a wsdl that includes a simple type restriction, e.g.
            <simpleType name="ID">
                <restriction base="xsd:string">
                    <length value="18"/>
                    <pattern value='[a-zA-Z0-9]{18}'/>
                </restriction>
            </simpleType>

in Axis 1.1, this creates a new type called ID, with beta2, this is just mapped to string. This make existing client code (written against an Axis 1.1 generated stub) incompatible.
