DTD vs Schema performance

hi,

I was trying to compare DTD vs Schema validation and observed following
using Xerces

I have ran some test cases to compare DTD and XML Schema. Basically took XML
files (of James Clark Expat Performance tests), created DTD and XML Schema,
also added namespace. Then for three different file sizes ( 3KB, 35KB,
356KB) ran it through SAX and DOM parsers with DoSchema, Do validation, Do
Namespace and Do SchemaFull Validation enabled).
Obeservations:
* For SAX XML Schema validation as expected is 25% slower than DTD
validation

 * For DOM based parsing XML Schema validation is 25% faster than DTD
validation and also for big file sizes has less memory overhead.

Is such behaviour expected and if anybody knows of any performance issues
when deciding between DTD or XML Schema with Xerces.

Thanks

Ritesh
