Installing Pluto on Websphere Geronimo

Hi ,

I am a newbie and I'm trying to install PLUTO on Websphere CE (Geronimo). I
have got it working on a Tomcat Server, but so far, I haven't been able to
get it up and running on a CE environment.

Has anyone been able to do that successfully.

Any help is appreciated ...

Thanks,
Avin

I tried embedding pluto 1.1 in Geronimo 1.0 and i was able to get About and
Admin portlet working but there is class loading related problem if you have
more than 2 portlets installed as different web apps. If you want i can send
that solution to you if you want to put all your portlets either in one war
or ear file.

But things are much simplier in Geronimo 1.1 now it has <sharedlib> element
for declaring dependency which is similar to Apache Tomcat's shared/lib and
installing pluto in it is very simple.

I am planning to publish detailed instructions on

Ok, i'm a little confused
when u say console-framework is used to hook in pluto in my webapp, what do
u mean, does that just stand for the pluto context in this situation?
console-standard is the placeholder in what way? Is that where i dump
portlets etc?
Thanks

I suggest you follow the way geronimo's admin console is deployed. Basically,
you create an app containing 2 webapps "console-framework" and
"console-standard".

Console-framework is used to hook in pluto into your webapp.
Console-standard is the placeholder for your portlets, servlets, and related
stuff.

console-ear is the final artifact that gets created and needs to be deployed
onto Geronimo.

Hello I'm also very interested to know if anyone has done this successfully.
Do I need to build pluto from source?
I resolved all dependency issues but I was getting this error. It seems like
its looking for the testsuite context. I will try using pluto 1.0.1 to see
if that helps. Any ideas? Is there anything I'm missing?

Thanks

Hi Greg,

What are the artifacts that need to be bundled along with your web-app to be
installed in WebSphere CE.
Can you list them out ?

Also are there any other places which are the integration checkpoint ?

Thanks,
Avin

Hi Greg,

I was able to get pluto 1.1 working in Geronimo 1.0/WASCE but it had
limitation that all portlets should be in same web app which i think is not
good thing.

I tried adding pluto jars in repository and had dependency on it in all my
portlets and pluto container but there was problem that when Pluto servlet
tries to set request parameters and forwards request to actual servlet it
throws ClassCastException. Do you know how to solve this issue.
