[VOTE] Apache Tika 0.10 release rc #1

Hi Folks,

A first release candidate for the Tika 0.10 release is available at:

    http://people.apache.org/~mattmann/apache-tika-0.10/rc1/

The release candidate is a zip archive of the sources in:

    http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/tika/tags/0.10/

The SHA1 checksum of the archive is 355d0b2fa0de232672e4760941ea0dcf641a82ad.

A staged Maven repository is available at:

https://repository.apache.org/content/repositories/orgapachetika-100/

Please vote on releasing this package as Apache Tika 0.10.
The vote is open for the next 72 hours and passes if a majority of at
least three +1 Tika PMC votes are cast.

[ ] +1 Release this package as Apache Tika 0.10
[ ] -1 Do not release this package because...

Cheers,
Chris

+1 to release!

I verified the signatures, and smoke tested the JAR on a few docs
(should we name it apache-tika-app-NN.jar in the future? Ie, add
apache- in front), and ran "mvn clean install test" from the src zip.

Ahh, gotcha. Just ship the updated CHANGES to [2] and then
maybe update in trunk, right? That's fine by me. I'll also update
the sig file name to match the tika src zip per Nick's suggestion
and call it done until the VOTE passes.

Will do.

Cheers,
Chris

I'd just update the file at [1] (that I guess will go to [2] if the
vote passes), but leave svn and the signed zip file untouched. If you
change the tag or the source zip, it's best to re-cut the entire RC
since we'll in any case need to verify the new signatures, etc.

Thanks Jukka.

If that's the case, I'd prefer to simply update CHANGES.txt in the RC zip file,
in the tag and the branch I'll create (and trunk), and then update the .asc file.

I'll count the existing +1s (and my own +1! :) ) towards the VOTE, and
let it go until 72 hours and then go from there.

Thanks guys.

Chris

It should be OK to change the .asc file name and the CHANGES.txt file
contents (outside the signed zip file) without cutting a new RC and
starting a new vote (neither change has significant legal
implications), so either way (recut or update the RC) is fine by me.

Nice catch, Nick, thanks. I'd be happy to be at the keysigning in Vancouver :)

One other quick thing I noticed is that the CHANGES.txt file doesn't include
the typical set of contributors list that I've been putting in all the releases so far.

Would anyone object to me updating the CHANGES.txt file and then respinning
a new RC? I have no problem doing it, and I can use it as an opportunity to
address the other small nits brought up.

Cheers,
Chris

Couple of minor things:
* The signature on the tika src file seems to have the wrong name (it's
   missing the -0.10 suffix)
* The GPG key used for signing isn't in the Apache WoT (we'll need to get
you along to the keysigning event in Vancouver!)

Assuming the -src sig file is renamed, I'm +1

I ran some manual tests on Linux with various types of docs and in
general things look good.
