0.7.0 release

Hi folks,

Based on some offline discussions with some folks from Pig, it looks like they have branched out in anticipation for their 0.15 release and they are looking for a 0.7.0 release. With that in mind, we should start looking at doing the same so as to unblock them.

Any volunteers to drive the 0.7.0 release?

thanks

Thanks for volunteering @Jeff. Looks like you are the only one who volunteered.

The release guide is here: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/TEZ/Making+a+TEZ+Release

As for when to branch out and make the release, as you are now the release manager, you get to drive all the logistics with help from the community on when to do the release and what goes into the release, etc.

For the current list of blockers/criticals for 0.6.1 and 0.7.0, refer to [1] and [2].

thanks
— Hitesh

Thanks! Have pulled in the 2 missing commits. I'll go ahead and change
master to 0.8.0 and changes CHANGES.txt as well.

Jeff, Could you please create a branch for the 0.7 release. There's some
issues which don't need to go into 0.7, but there's no place to land them
yet. One such is TEZ-1752.
If you don't mind, the branch could be created from commit
id: 8c44f2484b626ce9a7a3408bd3b0d7e0df2b1a24 (just before TEZ-1752). I'll
take care of committing the two additional commits
(bce7ff211f1b557a4aca46db8e839d5c2a0c8890
and 077b352fbd7ec44a7e5c3224837d5048829f09c4) on master which will be
missed as part of this.
The alternate would be to create the branch, and then revert TEZ-1752.

Thanks
- Sid

Well said, Hitesh. There are just a few remaining issues targeted to
0.6.1 that need to be considered before creating a release candidate.
You can expect an rc candidate soon on this.

Re: 0.7.0 release

Posted by Hitesh Shah <hi...@apache.org>.
Hello Andre,

Over the past couple of weeks, we have been driving some of the blockers for 0.6.1 to a close. I think Jon Eagles who drove the 0.6.0 release is probably going to be looking at doing a 0.6.1 release very shortly too.

Looking at [1], the 0.5.4 release is pretty much ready to go.
There are a few issues to be sorted for 0.6.1 [2] and 0.7.0 has a bunch more [3].

For the most part, anything released in 0.6.1 should also be in 0.7.0 ( unless for some unforseen reason, the 0.6.1 release goes after 0.7.0 ). The usual commit process is commit to master and then back port to the necessary older maintenance branches ( so anything on branch-0.6 should also already be on master which is where branch 0.7 will be cut from ).

thanks

Hi,

Can you give an update on the 0.6.1 progress before you release 0.7? How
will those branches compare? Will you port the fixes fro 0.6.1 over to 0.7?
