Kryo is a "fast and efficient binary object graph serialization framework for Java" ([https://github.com/EsotericSoftware/kryo)]. It is supported by Apache Spark and Apache Hive and used for internal serialization in Apache Storm. As a result, Kryo is used directly and indirectly by many large companies such as Spotify, Yahoo, Twitter and Groupon.

IMO It would be a worthwhile investigation to support Kryo serialization.
