When my server receives mails sent to Yahoo groups via Outlook Express they are
blocked because:
0.5 DNS_FROM_RFC_ABUSE RBL: Envelope sender in abuse.rfc-ignorant.org
2.5 FORGED_OUTLOOK_HTML Outlook can't send HTML message only
2.4 FORGED_OUTLOOK_TAGS Outlook can't send HTML in this format
Especially the latter two are a nonsense, because even my own email sent via OE
are blocked. I believe Yahoo rewrites email but leaves the original headers,
because I post in plain text and see the mail in html when received. This ends
up in an Outlook "impossible" message.

My Mac friends inform me that they haven't made OE for Mac for ages. It will
not even run on a 2 year old Mini running MacOS X 10.3 which is incapable of
running Classic. Do we really need to care about OE for Mac?
Latest version of OE for Mac was released in 2002.

Messages generated by Outlook Web Access (webmail) might also be pure HTML, as
opposed to Outlook and Outlook Express generated ones.

Can anyone confirm whether or not "Microsoft Outlook Express Macintosh Edition -
4.5 (0410)" or similar is affected?
I'm currently assuming it's an issue with the mailing list the message went
through and not the MUA itself.
Assuming there's no issue with Mac OE... I can't think of a way to avoid the
hits on the (non-Yahoo!) example mails, so I suppose we'll have to settle for
the modified rules that avoid the Yahoo! hits.

Bob, are all of the ham hits mail that Yahoo! has touched?
If so, I'm thinking that we should skip the following rules (and probably more),
from this bug and bug 4144, if Yahoo! has processed the message:
1.7 FORGED_IMS_HTML IMS can't send HTML message only
1.9 FORGED_IMS_TAGS IMS mailers can't send HTML in this format
2.5 FORGED_OUTLOOK_HTML Outlook can't send HTML message only

I also use the same version of OE to post to various yahoogroups, and do NOT
have this problem. Looking at the headers for a typical message of mine, they
are essentiallly identical from the top of the message down to this point,
where they differ:

Of course the receiving mail server is different...! But it is not the
triggering event. It looks to be the combination of the presence of OE headers
and the body as sent by Yahoo.
To clarify: I run my own mail server (using Mercury/32, www.pmail.com),
SpamAssassin runs on the mail server. The mail is caught when it is received
from Yahoo by the server, not in OE.

The huge majority of these are through Yahoo groups, so yes, some way to
exclude Yahoo groups messages would be good. However, not all of them.
Attached are three non-Yahoo emails:

This patch takes care of the FPs when sent through Yahoo!'s bulk mail systems.
Bob's examples are either forged or sent through a list that altered them, so I
don't think there's anything to be done about them.

That's not strictly true. Microsoft still has a download for OE for the Mac at
version 5.0. It does run on Classic macs only, but Mac OS X does run Clssic
programs. In 10.4 you have to install Classic support from the OS CD, but it is
there. There is no reason I could think of for someone with a modern Mac running
Mac OS X to run OE for Mac instead of several email programs that run native on
that OS.
I have OE 5.0 on an iMac, but I didn't get it configured properly to send mail
through my outbound server when I had time to try it, and it might be a few days
before I can get back to it. I have no idea how to find a version 4.5 to try
this with.

Triage: I'm able to reproduce the problem with Luigi's sample email, and find it
in my ham corpus, so yes, the problem does exist. (It's not a problem here
because negative-scoring rules drive the total scores down, plus we don't block
low-scoring spam, only flag them). Second sample will be uploaded shortly, since
I had to edit Luigi's to get it to process correctly, while mine will be in
standard mbx format.
IMO this is a serious FP exposure, so I'm setting a target milestone of 3.1.1.

Rick comfirmed that he's only had FP reports about mail sent via Yahoo! Groups.
Looking at Bob's samples... the first two are clearly not sent by Outlook
(somebody used Outlook for their templates). I don't know if the last one, sent
by the Mac version of OE is FPing due to the list it went through or not. If
anyone has some Mac OE samples that aren't sent through a list it'd help.
Here's the results of modified rules that avoid messages with Yahoo!'s "with
