Upcoming Xalan-J build process changes - start using Ant 1.1
A couple of changes I'm planning to make to the Xalan-J 1.x build - please
let me know if you have comments.
-- Build future distributions of Xalan-J 1.x with Ant. The Makefiles will
become 'deprecated'. Ant is well supported, used by many (most?) other
Apache projects, is more portable, and much easier to use than makefiles.
-- Update ant.jar to Ant 1.1 into the xml-xalan directory, along with
antRun & etc. See http://jakarta.apache.org/ant/index.html for details on
Ant. (Anyone know where ant-dev is archived?)
-- Update xml-xalan/build.xml to create a distribution that looks mostly,
but not completely, like the previous distributions created with Makefile.
-- Xalan-J 2.x builds will all be done with Ant 1.1 (which is already
separately checked in to xml-xalan/java/bin). At some point after the next
stable Ant release we can debate if we should update to it.
-- If anyone has automated build or checkout proceses that these changes
might affect, please let me know ASAP. Also, please remember that we
basically have three "separate" codebases hosted in the same source tree:
xml-xalan/ Xalan-J 1.x code is rooted here, and includes src/
xdocs/ samples/
xml-xalan/java/ Xalan-J 2.x code is rooted here, including all subdirs
xml-xalan/c/ Xalan-C 1.x code is rooted here, including all subdirs
Sorry, I don't have any solid info on when our next builds will be coming
out. We would like to post another developer's release of Xalan-J 1.x with
more patches compiled with Xerces-J 1.1.3 soon tho.
