LDAP configuration - how to do this ?

It seems we could do via Redback, LDAP authentification with Archiva 1.1.1.

I see the application.xml should be updated but how could we do that
since it's only available under
WEB-INF/classes/META-INF/plexus/application.xml.

Should it be updated there ? If so it's not a good option since it
will be lost after a war update.

Any advice (wiki, doc) will be greatly appreciated.
