[D] Graph chart with different node icons [superset]
GitHub user Moosheimer created a discussion: Graph chart with different node icons
Is it possible to display the nodes in a graph chart with different icons?
For example, if the node represents a car, then the icon should not be a circle but a car. And if another node is a person, then the icon should not be a circle but a person.
Can this be done by configuration?
Of course I know that you can download the source code and make changes there.
But I know absolutely nothing about Python and I am only a pure user. Therefore, only a configuration can help me.
Is this possible?
Or have there already been considerations in the community to implement this in the graph chart?
For example, a field in which you enter the name of the node and the icon to be used?

A good suggestion for introducing customizable icons in graph charts would be to add a configuration option in the chart settings where users can map node types or names to specific icons. For example, you could have a field in your dataset (like "node_type") and then, in the chart UI, select which icon should represent each type—either from a built-in icon set or by uploading your own images.
Technically, this is feasible because the underlying ECharts library already supports per-node icon customization, but Superset doesn't currently expose this in its UI or configuration options. Implementing this would require updates to the chart plugin and the UI to let users assign icons to node types without writing code.
There are no existing discussions or development efforts on this feature, so this would be a new and valuable enhancement for Superset.

It's not currently possible to display different icons for nodes in Superset's graph chart using configuration or the UI. The available customization options let you change node color, size, and edge symbols (like arrows or circles on the edges), but not the shape or icon of the nodes themselves. All node symbols are fixed (usually circles), and any icon customization would require code changes.
There are no open issues, discussions, or roadmap items about supporting per-node icons or shapes as a user-facing feature, and this isn't something you can set up through configuration today [reference](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/ef14a5fbb47a540b0c91f40fa397fa9c6d18fa2d/superset-frontend/plugins/plugin-chart-echarts/src/Graph/controlPanel.tsx).
