   Work In Progress
   
   This is a proposed API for a set of common utilities to manage data that spans one or more qd_buffer_t's in a chain.
   
   The goal is to replace duplicate/similar implementations in the code - in message.c, iterator.c, and parse.c, possibly elsewhere - with a single implementation.
   
   I'm looking for feedback on API naming and usability.  Thanks.
