Apache 2.0.36 - config error - Solaris

Hello,
Getting the following error when trying to configure:

# CC=gcc ./configure
checking for chosen layout... Apache
checking for working mkdir -p... yes
checking build system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.8
checking host system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.8
checking target system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.8

Configuring Apache Portable Runtime library ...

configuring package in srclib/apr now
checking build system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.8
checking host system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.8
checking target system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.8
Configuring APR library
Platform: sparc-sun-solaris2.8
checking for gcc... gcc
checking for C compiler default output... total
checking whether the C compiler works... configure: error: cannot run C
compiled programs.
If you meant to cross compile, use `--host'.
configure failed for srclib/apr

# gcc -v
Reading specs from /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-solaris2.8/3.0.1/specs
Configured with: ../configure --with-as=/usr/local/bin/as
--with-ld=/usr/local/bin/ld --enable-libgcj
Thread model: posix
gcc version 3.0.1

Binutils 2.11.2 installed.

I have compiled this before on another Solaris box set up in what I thought
was the same way, but I can't find any obvious differences as to why it
doesn't work on the 2nd box.

The "checking for C compiler default output... total" is puzzling since I
thought it should give a.out

Douglas,

  Great!

I could not see where this result could come from a 'normal'
environment. I would look at paths/software versions (shell, ls, more)
for a possible explanation for the differences you see.

I have found the problem, I had ls aliased to 'ls -lA|more'.

Funny thing is that its aliased on the other boxes that worked before, but
removing the alias gets everything to work.

Re: Apache 2.0.36 - config error - Solaris

Thanks for pointing that out, but it doesn't really shed much more light on
the issue...

There is no conftest.c file on either the machine that works or the one
that fails. The config.log is the same on both up to the line 2326 where
the one that works gives a.out and the one I'm having trouble with is "total"

I manually re-created the conftest.c and confdefs.h from the configure
script and ran gcc conftest.c and it does create a a.out file.

Re: apache question...

Posted by Daniel Lopez <da...@rawbyte.com>.
The only FTP implementation for Apache that I am aware of is
the commercial mod_ftp module for Apache 2.0 from Covalent.

I am not aware of any good open source FTP server for windows,
but at download.com or other sites you can find a great number or
shareware/freeware FTP servers for windows

Pureftpd makes a great ftpd server for linux. I know that they have ported
it for windows also so you may want to try it out.....

apache question...

Posted by "mail.earthlink.net" <be...@earthlink.net>.
hi,

Not sure if this is the corerct spot... but here goes!! In looking through
the apache docs, as well as other sites on the internet, it appears that
apache can be used as an FTP server. However, I'm unable to see how to do
this. There doesn't appear to be any way to configure apache to behave as a
FTP server. So, my question is... Can Apache be used as a FTP server???

If it can't be used as an FTP server, does anyone have any good suggestions
for an open source (source code)FTP server for windows (preferably c/c++).

Thanks in advance...

Re: Apache 2.0.36 - config error - Solaris

Douglas,

Take a look at the config.log in ${build_dir}/srclib/apr. The error
is happening there. The log will provide more information then the one
in the ${build_dir}. Perhaps enough to correct the problem.
