[Issue 125594] New: Option to set default font used when opening
csv/txt files
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=125594
Issue ID: 125594
Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Option to set default font used when opening csv/txt
files
Product: Calc
Version: 4.1.1
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: editing
Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
Reporter: apache@aniljava.com
Problem:
Currently for the files that are imported/open directly (Open with.. from OS),
the font used is always same (OS's serif). There is not proper way to change
this.
Rationale:
For users such as data scientists who primiraly work on unformatted data, the
option to change the default font used to render the tabular data would be
nice. For example, allowing to change the font to any monospaced instead of
variable width sans would aid on rapid glance of the tabular data. At the same
time restricting to one font only does not sound right if there is any easy
solution or a complex solution that allows users with absolute necessity for
this feature. This feature in itself is more useful to users who use calc
frequently than to some one whoe needs to get job done using calc once in a
while.
Existing workaround:
1. Font replacement table.
It works to some extend but it's side-effects like making the rendering of
odt and xls file with intended serif off-sized with the replaced fonts.
Solution Expected:
1. Introduce feature that allows to change default fonts used that works on
imported csv/tsv.
2. Or Temporary hack pointers from someone who knows the internal or worked on
that particular segment for source/configuration changes to achieve the same
effect.

--- Comment #1 from Andreas Säger <vi...@t-online.de> ---
csv data are always database data.
Best import method: Connect a Base document to your (collection of) text
file(s), add optional queries and link preformatted Calc documents, optionally
with charts, calculations, conditional formatting etc.
