[mp2] TestRun.pm in production-environment generates 'oh Crap, server dumped core' messages. When / why is TestRun.pm active?

1. Problem Description:

On our new Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS server (LAMP) I have successfully installed
mod_perl (with apt-get) and it seems to be running OK.
Our webbased ERP-package is running with mod_perl on several Ubuntu servers
without any problem (up from Ubuntu 8.04).
This server shows in the '/var/log/apache2/error.log'-file many lines like:
(...)
[ error] oh Shucks, server dumped core
[ error] oh Dangit, server dumped core
[ error] oh Crap, server dumped core
[ error] oh Gosh, server dumped core
[ error] oh Dangit, server dumped core
[ error] oh Dangnabit, server dumped core
(...)
Around 40 of these messages per hour, only when user are active on the
server with Apache2/Mod_Perl.

We have not seen these on other servers.
I traced this to '/usr/lib/perl5/Apache/TestRun.pm' (I altered shucks to
Shucks...) and commented 2 lines to prevent these messages.

My questions are:
(1) Why is a function in TestRun.pm active? Seems to me TestRun is for
testing? Or when you compile from source?
(2) Are these messages meant seriously?
(3) When we upgrade to 14.04 (whith a newer mod_perl version), is this
solved?

Eric
