HashSet<Text> matchingRows = new HashSet<Text>();
...
    matchingRows.add(new Text(entry.getKey().getColumnQualifier()));

Should read:

HashSet<Range> matchingRows = new HashSet<Range>();
...
    matchingRows.add(new Range(entry.getKey().getColumnQualifier()));

// Now this line will work, since it accepts a collection of range not text 
bscan.setRanges(matchingRows);
