Apache PDFBox October 2014 board report due

Hi,

find attached a quick draft of the board report we're expected to submit this
month.

@John, @Tilman
Is there anything we should add about GSoC?

Any further comments, objections or additions?

<draft>

The Apache PDFBox library is an open source Java tool for working with PDF
documents.

General Comments
----------------

There are no issues that require Board attention.

Community
---------

There is a steady stream of contributions and bug reports from the community.

John Hewson and Tilman Hausherr were added as committers and PMC members to our
ranks in February 2014.

Jukka Zitting stepped back and went emeritus per his own request in April 2014.

481 (451 last report) subscribers on the user@ list
155 (153 last report) subscribers on the dev@ list

Releases
--------

Version 1.8.7 was released on 19nd of September 2014. It is an incremental
bugfix release based on PDFBox 1.8.x.

Development:
------------

The work on our next major release is an ongoing effort. The main topics are:

- switch to java 1.6
- enhance the parser
- code cleanup
- enhance rendering
- enhance font handling
- reduce memory footprint

We hoped to release the new major release in the late summer but reality proves
us wrong. It'll take some more time.

Ok, will do

I already mentioned that in our april report and forgot mention Jukka stepping
back in the last one so that I follow up this time.

Hi,

For "my" project, you can put some text like that the project code has
been put into the production release mentioned.

You also forgot to mention Eric Leleu's emeritus status.

I’ve been working with my GSoC student on his GitHub repos to get the C++ code the point where it can be integrated with PDFBox’s existing Java codebase. It’ll be a few weeks yet before it’s ready.
