[jira] Created: (GERONIMO-835) Make clean-repo delete based on file name/version

Make clean-repo delete based on file name/version
-------------------------------------------------

         Key: GERONIMO-835
         URL: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GERONIMO-835
     Project: Geronimo
        Type: Improvement
  Components: buildsystem
    Versions: 1.0-M3, 1.0-M4
    Reporter: Aaron Mulder
     Fix For: 1.0

It would be nice if the clean-repo task only cleaned out the artifacts with the current Geronimo/OpenEJB version number in the name, instead of deleting the entire Geronimo/OpenEJB directories. The specs dir would be a little more annoying since some of the version differ, but hey. This would allow you to do a clean-repo or rebuild-all for, say, the current milestone branch or HEAD without whacking all the files for both.

David Jencks closed GERONIMO-835:

    Fix Version: 1.0-M5
                     (was: 1.0)
     Resolution: Invalid
      Assign To: David Jencks

This would defeat the main purpose of clean-repo, which is to make it so your build cannot depend on any geronimo/openejb/whatever artifacts that it did not generate. Unless you are trying to verify that you can do a really clean build, and that the build actually generates all the geronimo/openejb artifacts that it uses, there is no reason to clean your repo.

[jira] Commented: (GERONIMO-835) Make clean-repo delete based on file name/version

Aaron Mulder commented on GERONIMO-835:
---------------------------------------

Well, I happen to disagree, but it's not a big deal.

I use "m:rebuild-all" to make sure that a change didn't break something elsewhere in the tree so I run it kind of a lot. It was a little annoying when switching regularly between M4 and HEAD that the files for one were always gone because I did a rebuild-all on the other.

Still, I can see your point. Maybe I'm asking for something different instead of a change to clean-repo.
