[jira] [Created] (IMPALA-9169) GetOperationStatus prevents expiring sessions

Xiaomin Zhang created IMPALA-9169:
-------------------------------------

             Summary: GetOperationStatus prevents expiring sessions
                 Key: IMPALA-9169
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/IMPALA-9169
             Project: IMPALA
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: Infrastructure
    Affects Versions: Impala 2.8.0
            Reporter: Xiaomin Zhang

With the fix of IMPALA-4488, GetOperationStatus keeps the session alive so the client can wait for the running query finished before it fetches result. This works perfectly for *DBC clients, but unfortunately leads to issues for HUE.

Unlike other clients, HUE has a periodical status check for all queries opened in the UI to update the query status. This is hard-coded as 5 minutes, and any sessions opened by HUE won't be expired if the --idle_session_timeout is longer than 5 minutes, hence session expiration is not working properly for HUE.

I think GetOperationStatus should not reset session's last_accessed timestamp for finished or expired queries.
