TinyMCE vs W3C standards. Tables not working at all in tinyMCE.

Hi All

I am using Lenya 2.0.3 and tinyMCE editor to edit my pages. However
tinyMCE editor is showing all the attributes that are depricated
according to w3c recommendations for xhtml.
So whenever I try to save my page with having some deprecated attribute,
all the changes which I have made to the page get lost.

Is there any way I can correct this? I tried integrating tinyMCE version
3 but it did not worked with lenya 2.0 for me.

Tables is tinyMCE are not working at all. The error in the logs is:

2010-07-05 19:05:47,953 [SocketListener0-4] ERROR lenya.publication -

You could add the attributes to the schema, which would get rid of your
validation problem. I can't remember if it uses a cleaner or not. You
could take some of the cleaning XSLT items from the FCK module if it
does use a cleaner. If it doesn't you could copy the FCK cleaning code
to make it clean up the source.

Yes sure, I see this presentation too. Really interresting editor. But for
now they don't know witch licence they apply - many discussion on it. As
far as I know the first release of this editor will be in
september/october.

Here one of their presentation :

Whoops, got that one backwards. GPL v3 stuff can include Apache License,
not the other way around. So it doesn't help us.

No. That information on the Wiki page is not current.

Aloha likely will use the same combination of licenses as jQuery: GPL2 and
MIT. Otherwise the IKS project (which includes proprietary software vendors)
would not be able to use it.

Thank you for the suggestion. Florent is also tracking that project.
Unfortunately it looks like it is going to be GPL, which means we can't
include it directly with Lenya. It would have to be a separate download
like TinyMCE or CKEditor.

Such an editor is under development:

Semantic Editor - Aloha Editor
http://wiki.iks-project.eu/index.php/Semantic_Editor

While no code has been released yet I have seen a demo by the main authors
and I think that it has real potential to become *the* browser based editor.

We should be ok with licensing there.

We really need to get one good HTML editor to the position where a user
can quickly and easily get it up and going.

Yeah - this is what I was thinking actually.

Users need the functionality to be easy and simple to install - so for
ease of use, I would suggest the svn that Florent is hosting is a good
place for modules that have 'license implications'.

Is this an OK route?

Hi all,

as I have just discovered, there is a way to modify the TinyMCE dialogs without
patching the source code, with only CSS.

See

  https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=49580

for a patch.

This patch needs to be tested on different browsers.

I would probably say not. Maybe others have different interpretation of
the rules?

They could be posted at a 3rd party location, and then linked to on
either the wiki or website. Something like Florent's svn tree or even
Google Code (if they allow LGPL projects).

We could provide the patch, with explicit instructions how to apply when TinyMCE
is installed. Not an easily usable solution.

There may be a way around this. The HTML dialogs are part of the TinyMCE
"advanced" theme. Adding another theme as part of the ASF infrastructure should
be possible. However, if I understand the LGPL correctly, this new theme must
not be derived from the supplied "advanced" theme. Or would this be possible?

I don't think we can provide patches. To create a patch you need to use
part of the source code, and TinyMCE is LGPL. LGPL is forbidden in ASF
projects. It certainly could be an externally provided patch, but I
don't think it can be on ASF infrastructure.

This is interesting. You wrote that you are using lenya 2.0.3. As far as I know
this patch was applied before 2.0.3.

Look at

  https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=47416

and

  https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=46744

for the necessary changes. Again, I believe these are already in 2.0.3.

 > I think it would be better to remove the attributes and options completely

I agree. To do that you have to patch a number of files from the tinymce
distribution, namely

  plugins/table/table.htm
  plugins/table/cell.htm
  plugins/table/row.htm
  themes/advanced/jscripts/image.js
  themes/advanced/image.htm

Since these files are not part of lenya itself, it is not easy to do
automatically.

   Rainer

Hi All

The problem regarding the table and some of the deprecated tags is
sorted. I have replace the file and applied the patch given here:

https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=47205

However there are still some attributes like width for table, which when
I set to a value, my page gets reset.
Is there anything I missed out?

I think it would be better to remove the attributes and options
completely from tinyMCE editor.

Regards
Sachin
