When people like of hadoop and sql databases they think of Hive and Sqoop. Since rcFiles is Hives native format it would only be natural for Sqoop to support that format.

Hi Ted,
please feel free and go ahead if you want to code something. I'll be happy to help you. However I have to warn you that different output formats are sort of hack in Sqoop 1 branch and development might be pretty tricky as this functionality to very high extent also depends on collaborative connectors. I would suggest to wait on Sqoop 2 where we will much cleaner interface for that if I might.
