Wildcards in ActiveMQ

Hi I am using AmqV5.8

I am trying to create a topic with name "a.*" but when I see in jconsole it
shows it as "a.*"

Why ?

Another thing is What is the difference between wildcards (*) and (>) ?

Thanks
