Apache DirectoryIndex behaviour

DirectoryIndex index.htm index.jsp

With this directive Apache responds with a HTTP 302 that redirects the browser to the index.jsp.
Is this the correct behaviour? If it finds index.htm Apache serves it directly. TIA.
