HTTP proxy problems since subversion-1.6 and serf-0.3.0, svn: Error running context: Internal error

Scenario 1: subversion-1.5.6 with serf-0.3.0 works fine:

$ ./configure --prefix=/opt/algo/local --with-serf=/opt/algo/local
$ make
$ make install

$ svn --version
svn, version 1.5.6 (r36142)
   compiled Jun 16 2009, 17:43:39

Subversion is open source software, see http://subversion.tigris.org/
This product includes software developed by CollabNet (http://www.Collab.Net/).

The following repository access (RA) modules are available:

* ra_neon : Module for accessing a repository via WebDAV protocol using Neon.
  - handles 'http' scheme
  - handles 'https' scheme
* ra_svn : Module for accessing a repository using the svn network protocol.
  - handles 'svn' scheme
* ra_local : Module for accessing a repository on local disk.
  - handles 'file' scheme
$ svn co https://svn.parrot.org/parrot/trunk parrot
Checked out revision 39590.

Scenario2: subversion-1.6.2 with serf-0.3.0 on the same environment as Scenario1 does not work (svn: Error running context: Internal error):

$ ./configure --prefix=/opt/algo/local --with-serf=/opt/algo/local
$ make
$ make install

$ svn --version
svn, version 1.6.2 (r37639)

Created issue 3428.

The http-proxy-exceptions setting isn't implemented yet in ra_serf,
please log an issue on the libsvn_ra_serf library.

thanks, Lieven.

I'd like to think so: I think Serf should be a reasonable alternative
for the largest part of our user base, including those with LDAP
authentication (solved) and proxies (aparently not completely solved).

Would regressions in handling proxy exceptions be considered a show
stopper?
I haven't filed a bug report yet since I reported the issue on the
users list with absolutely no response yet...

I know serf has problems when specifying http-proxy-exceptions in
both 1.5 and 1.6. (The exceptions seem to be ignored and it still
contacts the proxy.) See my post on the users list. Doesn't
crash and it looks like you already have the exceptions
commented out...

Is serf still supposed to be the default in 1.7? If so, is there
a list of remaining open issues like these?

ra_serf is known to have problems with error handling,
and it not enabled by default yet because of this and other problems.

If you try

	http-library = neon

does that make the problem go away?
