[WWW] migration complete...at least I think so
I am finally DONE with the huge migration/update to
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/ooo/ooo-site/
I saved one of the biggest to last yesterday...marketing.
The total size of this repository is: 8.2G
so you need to be aware of this as well as lengthy checkout times the
first time around.
I may have some minor clean-up on DOS line ending files that didn't get
committed the first time through, but I anticipate this will be less than
about 20 commits.
Thanks for your understanding if you were trying to do checkouts this past
week or so.
PLEASE let me know if you run into any lock out or other file omission
problems with any areas (I think I took care of the N-L areas a few weeks
ago but I may have overlooked some), I will take care of this.
This DOES NOT include the legacy OpenOffice.org "incubator" sites.
Now on to other things.

Are you talking about the "I want to...." links on the current
www.openoffice.org homepage? Or a navigator that would be on all
pages? Trying to get a uniform nav look and feel will be hard, since
there are so many links between the various sites, especially between
the static site and the wiki pages. Unless we can get the nav uniform
across that boundary it may be awkward. But if we can get it uniform
it would certainly be nice.

This will be meaningless to 99.99% of our users. But maybe could call
it "Report a Bug". Of course, BZ itself is too complicated for most
users.

Is wiki really a destination, something that users are looking for? I
think of it more like a technology we use for delivering content. So
maybe we could highlight a link to a specific wiki area, like "FAQs".
But I don't know why a user would be searching generically for the
wiki.

On Sunday I plan to adjust the wrapping and build the table of subdomain re-wraps.
I'll then negotiate the publish build with Infrastructure. It will hit the website svn hard.
One thing I wanted to do was add a set of navigation buttons to the ooo-site framework.
I was thinking of something like:
- Download
- Support
- Bugzilla
- Wiki
- Apache Project.
- N-L pop-up
The project could discuss what the buttons should be and how they are named.

What tasks remain before we can go live with this as the new
openoffice.org website? Is there a list on the wiki someplace?

For example, sty2.GIF and sty2.gif. These are actually different and checkout and update on a Windows/MacOSX, and other case-insensitive file systems will fail when the duplicate is reached. This also leaves the folder in a funny state in the Working Copy. Clean-up can't fix it either.
I'm doing a svn co on people.apache.org to get away from the case issue on suffixes.
Also I needed to do the following to get past an umlaut in a filename:
export LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8
locale
LANG=
LC_COLLATE="C"
LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="C"
LC_MONETARY="C"
LC_NUMERIC="C"
LC_TIME="C"
LC_ALL="C/en_US.UTF-8/C/C/C/C"
Once I get an export it ought to be possible to find suffix case conflicts.
>
> I need to install a Windows command-line build of co to see if --force is any help at all. Tortoise SVN doesn't have a way of exercising that case, or of skipping the failure.
svn --force up does not fix the issue on my Mac. Hence my going to my people.apache.org account.

RE: [WWW] migration complete...at least I think so
Posted by "Dennis E. Hamilton" <de...@acm.org>.
Hi. I don't think --force skips errors, I think it does other things.
The problem I noticed is that that, for example, in the documentation/HOW_TO/spreadsheet folder, there are *different* files whose names are only different in the use of upper-/lower-case. For example, sty2.GIF and sty2.gif. These are actually different and checkout and update on a Windows/MacOSX, and other case-insensitive file systems will fail when the duplicate is reached. This also leaves the folder in a funny state in the Working Copy. Clean-up can't fix it either.
I need to install a Windows command-line build of co to see if --force is any help at all. Tortoise SVN doesn't have a way of exercising that case, or of skipping the failure.

yeah, I heard this from Dennis as well. Uh...I don't really know where all
these are and it might not be easy to track them down. I was hoping you
(and others) could still do a checkout (maybe use --force) to get what you
could.
I'm on case sensitive linux and no problems.
I won't have time to deal with this for at least a week.

Hi Kay,
Great work!
BTW - I still have trouble. I can get around it, but it is very painful.
svn cleanup
svn: In directory 'trunk/content/documentation/HOW_TO/spreadsheet'
svn: Error processing command 'modify-wcprop' in 'trunk/content/documentation/HOW_TO/spreadsheet'
svn: 'trunk/content/documentation/HOW_TO/spreadsheet/calc2PDF.ZIP' is not under version control
I think you'll need remove these GIF, PDF and ZIP files as gif, pdf and zip. Case matters.
I'll be working on the wrapping.
We'll need to be aware of when we do big SVN transactions and arrange these with Infrastructure.
(1) I think that the staging build broke last night.
(2) When we publish.pl from staging we must ask Infrastructure to do it.

correct! For example, on the N-L projects page, I made all relative URLs
givne our current directory structure. This would be fine.
Given the loss of the old navigation tabs...I don't know what we want to do
about getting people to the legacy "projects", some of which might not make
any sense right now. We have the complete sites, but we probably want to do
quite a bit with reorganization and strategy before linking them in I would
think.

I should state clearly that anyone taking charge of the QA site will get my help. I think there are issues here that require attention.
There was special effort in openoffice.org to transition into Bugzilla. This is also something that is broken.
QA does need special attention. I am only asking that if changes are made that those changes are ready to be live in less than two weeks. Less broken is better than more broken and changes can be applied before and after migration. Of course if others feel strongly that QA must be perfect before migration of openoffice.org to the project run svn, make your best argument.

There will be some systematic changes to ooo-site urls this weekend. If you go to http://ooo-site.staging.apache.org/qa you can see that the systematic changes are not yet applied. When the top level links go to /qa instead of qa.openoffice.org you'll know when it will be productive to start making changes.

Careful please. When the domain name is moved, the new site will have the URL of the old site. Don't make any absolute URLs to ooo-site. If you mean that there need to be some references updated to point to the developer site (not ooo-site's web presence), that works.
I still recommend that most of that wait until after the move and this can be done systematically. For now, there is no release to apply the new development site too and it can be worked up gradually, it seems to me.
I'm not sure what it means about out-of-date QA material though. Keep in mind that there may still be an OO.o 3.3.1 release.
