[jira] Commented: (AXIS2C-868) Function axiom_element_create[Alastair FETTES]

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/AXIS2C-868?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=12555869#action_12555869 ]

Senaka Fernando commented on AXIS2C-868:
----------------------------------------

Hi there,

The user is not supposed to call the axiom_element_free() method at the moment. Doing so, will lead him into trouble. This method along with other similar methods in axiom_comment etc., should not be exposed to a user. It doesn't make sense to document this. We should be simply hiding this method. However, as this requires an api-level change, this can't be fixed until a 2.x.x release. Alternate workarounds may be possible. But, there is a concern on how we could improve the inheritance model with respect to nodes, elements etc. with a 2.x.x release, in which case, temporary fixes wouldn't make any sense.

Please correct me if I have made a mistake.

Regards,
Senaka

> axiom_element_t* axiom_element_create(
> const axutil_env_t* env,
> axiom_node_t* parent,
> const axis2_char_t* localname,
> axiom_namespace_t* ns,
> axiom_node_t** node)
> The axiom_node_t instance node has responsibility for the returned axion_element_t*. Therefore, calls to axiom_node_free_tree will free this returned element (in addition to all the child nodes of node). The memory allocated for the return value should not be de-allocated using axiom_element_free in this scenario, since it is internally tied to the node.
