maprdb hbase drill does not get any result

Hi,

In hbase shell, I can scan data in '/tables/excel'

In drill sqlline, I can describe the table,
use maprdb;
describe excel;
returns correct column family names

But, select * from excel;
does not work.

What should I look at?

Thanks,

Sungwook

Hi Abhishek,

The content is,
{
 "type" : "hbase",
 "enabled" : true,
 "config" : {
   "hbase.table.namespace.mappings" : "*:/tables"
 }
}

And there is no error. It returns with no rows, while there are 3000 rows.

Thanks,

Sungwook

Are you running sqlline in local mode?

If not, it doesn't matter what sqlline is run as. what is the drill but
running as?

Looks like you are invoking in cluster mode, but the plug-in does not
include ZooKeeper info.

Can you add it and try once?

Example:

"config": {
    "hbase.zookeeper.quorum": "10.10.103.32",
    "hbase.zookeeper.property.clientPort": "5181"
  }

You do not need to configure Zookeeper settings in HBase pluginif all you
want is to connect to MapR-DB.

This will not work if it is the permission issue as suspected by Steven
and I.

Most likely DrillBits in the cluster are running as user "mapr" while the
table is owned by "root". Adding read permission for user "mapr" at table
and CF level should resolve this.

you can also use maprdb with the dfs plugin, for example (on the mapr
sandbox drill .6):

select * from dfs.*`/tables/customers` *limit 5;

Sungwook,

   What's the column family permission? You probably want to do
something like this to give r/w permissions:

maprcli table cf edit -cfname dependent_vars -path '/tables/lecxe'
-readperm 'u:root|u:mapr'
maprcli table cf edit -cfname dependent_vars -path '/tables/lecxe'
-writeperm 'u:root|u:mapr'

Please add the setting "size.calculator.enabled" : false to the plugin
configuration.

i.e.
{
 "type" : "hbase",
 "enabled" : true,

 "size.calculator.enabled": false,

 "config" : {
   "hbase.table.namespace.mappings" : "*:/tables"
  }
}

Thanks, I made user mapr owned table.
Here is what I got from drill sqlline.

0: jdbc:drill:zk=10.180.98.244:5181,10.180.98> describe lecxe;
+-------------+------------+-------------+
| COLUMN_NAME | DATA_TYPE  | IS_NULLABLE |

| dependent_vars | (VARCHAR(1), ANY) MAP | NO          |
| independent_vars | (VARCHAR(1), ANY) MAP | NO          |
+-------------+------------+-------------+
3 rows selected (0.197 seconds)
0: jdbc:drill:zk=10.180.98.244:5181,10.180.98> select * from lecxe limit 2;
Query failed: Failure while setting up Foreman.

Error: exception while executing query: Failure while executing query.
(state=,code=0)

I guess, this is due to hbase version 0.98???

If Drill doesnt show any results, and no errors... it's a permissions issue. By design, MapRDB will not reveal anything about the requested table due to security reasons.

You can try running the following on all of the tables you wish to query.
 maprcli table cf edit -path ${tblPath} -cfname ${colFam} -readperm "u:mapr|u:root"

Expand this to allow other users that you wish to grant read permissions to.

Here is how I invoke sqlline,

sqlline -u jdbc:drill:zk=10.180.98.244:5181,10.180.98.245:5181,
10.180.98.246:5181

What about DrillBits? Or are you running Drill in embedded mode?

Re: maprdb hbase drill does not get any result

The hbase (maprdb) table is created at /tables/excel by root.
The sqlline is executed under root too.

If it's returning 0 records, but no exception is thrown, my first guess
would be that there is a permission issue.

Hi Sungwook,

When you say "select * from excel" does not work, do you mean no results
are returned or an error is thrown? If an error is thrown, can you share
the error message and exceptions from log (since you are using MapR, it
most likely at /opt/mapr/drill/drill-<version>/logs/drillbit.log)?

Also, can you share the contents of your maprdb plug-in?
