Will resolve this JIRA by becoming a committer.
However I have a quick fix for this one can perform a monkey patch of GridViewLayout and 
change line (approx. 971)
FROM
const rowCount:int = gridDimensionsView.rowCount;
TO
const rowCount:int = 0;.
