md5 sum creation: jar:install, jar:deploy

For some reason, when I execute the jar:install and jar:deploy goals, a md5
sum is not created.  Furthermore, I see no evidence of an attempt to create
one when I do it in verbose mode.  I seem to remember that they were created
before.  Any clues as to what may have happened to my configuration?
