just selecting configurations should be one option, but being able to export the whole history would also be useful.

For 1.0, we should look at making the upgrade process less manual.

I would prefer that we have an easier migration path than this, but this is a good idea anyway for backup purposes. I assume you can use the modello model version to generate some XML and do this, assuming you updated the version before changing things after alpha-1.
