compile error (Missing JavaSchema.java, others...)
Hello,
Please help me run maven in a way that prevents Maven from running tests - is
that possible?
(Or, please check in the missing files? Or are these generated from antlr? -
no other compile errors happened. I even tried 'maven clean' first..)
Thank you.

OK, I'm online. I'm running Linux Redhat 9, Java 5 FCS.
If you get a moment...

Good idea. I tried this but it didn't build. I tried with jdk1.4 and jdk1.5.
(I retrieved the trunk for Directory/ldap)
In both cases I received the compile errors:

Maven 1.0 works with 1.4 for sure. The problem is with paths with spaces.
Maven 1.0.1 fixed issues with that. I discovered and repaired that
issue (and submitted the fix) when Java 1.5 was first introduced.
If you take the startup script from Maven 1.0.1 and use it for Maven
1.0--your JAVA_HOME environment variable can be set to anything and it
will work.

Hmm. Don't you have to perform the maven jar:install-snapshot for the
ldap project in Directory?

Mark,
I think maven 1.0 works with 1.4 and 1.5. I know 1.4 for certain but
have not tried it on 1.5. If you were only referring to the VM issues I
can help out on that. Just gimme like 20-30 minutes and I can lend more
of a hand. If you have a chance see if you can log into IRC here
irc.freenode.net #directory-dev and we can work on the issue faster. My
handle is aok - the only one there at the moment.
If we cannot resolve what is happening using debug switches in maven I
guess I can replicate your environment. I can setup a VMWare instance
with the OS and Java version you are using.

Since #1 will not work with jdk1.4 or jdk1.5 I tried #2. #2 did not work
either. I added this line to build.properties (tried project.properties too)
maven.remote.repo=http://cvs.apache.org/repository
but the ldap jar still wasn't found.

There is a bug in Maven 1.0.1 where deps are not inherited with POM
extention so we went back to using 1.0. Here take a look at this email:

Oh I'll try to get to those java5 errors that did not take after the
patch. Sorry for the inconvenience. This is #2 after the deadlock
testing I need to do.

I switched to jdk1.4, removed ~/.maven, 'maven clean', 'maven
multiproject:install' and the classes are still missing for me. So the
missing classes problem doesn't seem to have anything to do with java 5.

Is everything set up to tell the compiler that the sourcecode is 1.4? I
think the proper property
is this:
maven.compile.source=1.4
maven.compile.target=1.4
Add that to all your project.properties should make everything compile
properly--even if you have Java 1.5.
Question: what version of Java5 do you have? Is it a final release or
one of the betas?

I blew away ~/.maven, did a maven clean, and the build still shows all of the
same errors with EveSchema,CoreSchema,etc...
Maybe I should just give up with Java 5 and try with jdk1.4 later.

No worries these are ok warning. Do me a favor and svn up your code. I
figure until I apply the patch (which I had a couple problems with)
you're using jdk1.4 for now. But after the svn up just remove your
entire ~/.maven directory. I think you might have some stale stuff in
there. Trustin just built fine and had this same problem - it cleared
up after blowing away ~/.maven.
Let me know if this works out.

Just a thought: I see warnings:
[echo] Compiling
to /mnt/hda3/mswanson/src/eve/jndi-provider/target/classes
warning couldn't find aspectjrt.jar on classpath, checked:
Plugin 'maven-deploy-plugin' in project 'Eve JNDI Provider' is not available
Plugin 'maven-deploy-plugin' in project 'Eve SEDA Protocol Provider' is not
available
Plugin 'maven-deploy-plugin' in project 'maven-eve-plugin' is not available
Plugin 'maven-deploy-plugin' in project 'maven-eve-plugin' is not available
Plugin 'maven-deploy-plugin' in project 'Eve Shared' is not available
So, maybe that gives some indication...
Thanks.
