[jira] Created: (INFRA-2871) Mailing list blocking email address

Mailing list blocking email address
-----------------------------------

                 Key: INFRA-2871
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-2871
             Project: Infrastructure
          Issue Type: Bug
      Security Level: public (Regular issues)
          Components: Mailing Lists
            Reporter: Wendall Cada

I had a few hours down time on my primary mail server and my email address is now blocked from two mailing lists.

My email address: wendallc@83864.com

Mailing lists: user@couchdb.apache.org and dev@couchdb.apache.org

There appears to be no user interface for the mailing list manager. The path to resolve the issue is also highly confusing. I'm still not even certain if this is the proper place to be requesting that this issue be resolved. It would be nice to have some end-user paths for use of the apache.org infrastructure. Maybe even use a mailing list web interface ;)

--------------------------------------------------------------

I should have mentioned that I already tried to unsubscribe and resubscribe to the lists. I even sent an email to the user@ list in an attempt to see if any emails were getting through. There appears to be some other issue going on here. I receive no email responses from the server. I will note that it has been over 10 days since I had the issue with my server was resolved.

Edit: It appears as though my emails are going through. My test email went through yesterday. However, I am no longer receiving email messages from either list.

Hopefully this gets closer to the actual issue.

[jira] Resolved: (INFRA-2871) Mailing list blocking email address

Posted by "Mark Thomas (JIRA)" <ji...@apache.org>.

Mark Thomas resolved INFRA-2871.
--------------------------------

    Resolution: Not A Problem

It is highly unlikely that you have been blocked. Whilst possible, it requires specific action by a list moderator and is usually only used to prevent spam reaching the list. Unless you were sending out of office messages or similar to the lists, you should be fine.

If your server was down, you may have been unsubscribed automatically after a number of failed attempts to send you e-mail. Simply re-subscribing should be all that is required.

If your mail is being rejected, ensure that you send using plain text (no multi-part, no HTML) and that should resolve most issues.

Note: If you need assistance with list at tlp dot apache dot org then sending an e-mail to list-owner at tlp dot apache dot org is the quickest way to reach the moderators for that list. If that doesn't work (allow a day or so for a response) , by all means file an INFRA Jira.

Since I'm not 100% clear what you mean by blocked, if it isn't one of the above, feel free to re-open this issue and explain in more detail what is going wrong.

Mark Thomas commented on INFRA-2871:
------------------------------------

Hmm. That sounds like non-plaint text email hitting the spam trap or (unlikely) a mis-configured mail server at your end. Could you send me an email directly to markt at a dot o and I'll take a look at the headers. If that doesn't work, one of the folks that has access to the mail servers might need to take a look.
