general Base Action class question

i'm building a test application with struts in order to learn it better. 

out of curiosity, i was wondering what sort of useful functionality people 
are building into a Base Action class (i.e. a super class for all actions), 
and how (in general) they are using them to fulfill specific business 
needs.

if it's particularly interesting, maybe even post the base action class for 
discussion.
