External entities features

Why is it not possible to disable the "external-parameter-entities" and
"external-general-entities" features?

somebody at work today COMPLETELY changed an interface that
i had coded against and it is my unfortunate responsibility
to get my code working again. <sigh/>

and then i read my email and, oh my goodness! that made me
laugh and i needed that today. thanks.

Because there is no code in the parser to handle those options.
