[Issue 127041] New: Find/replace/format/Bold does not work

https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=127041

          Issue ID: 127041
        Issue Type: DEFECT
           Summary: Find/replace/format/Bold does not work
           Product: Writer
           Version: 4.1.2
          Hardware: PC
                OS: Windows 7
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: Normal
          Priority: P5 (lowest)
         Component: editing
          Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
          Reporter: cvenkel.miran@siol.net

Created attachment 85607
  --> https://bz.apache.org/ooo/attachment.cgi?id=85607&action=edit
some test file where search for bold does not work

https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/OOo3_User_Guides/Writer_Guide/Finding_and_replacing
"To search for specific formatting only, delete any text in the Search for box"

1. CTRL+F/more optins/Format/Bold/OK/FIND
Search field is empty or make it empty

Does not work.

Ma<be at the time of OK, Bold selection is arased, supposing based on:
Click Format again and selected font size is stil there, bold selection is
gone.

2.(Not a bug but suggestion) CTRL+F/more optins/Format/Bold/size/9
Now there is no way to make size empty again.Unless I spot reset button.
But if I can erase 9 with mouse and keyboard, make it empty, that should work
too, instead - on lost focus it takes value from combo.

EDIT: On second look format/reset does not work at all, at least for size.
Can't make it empty unless writer restart

--- Comment #3 from Keith N. McKenna <kn...@apache.org> ---
Because the bold italic formatting is applied in your test document via a
character style you must check the include styles check box for it to work.
the following note from the help file explains:

"Finding formats only finds direct character attributes, it does not find
attributes applied as part of a style."

The documentation you reference is for version 3 of the software and is out of
date. I will add a task to make sure that this is covered in the 4.x
documentation that is now in progress.

Replicated the error and could not get any format to return a search phrase
that was in my document. I tested yours and a new one with a single word in no
format, italics, bold, and bold italics. It's not clear what effect selecting
the format should have on the find function. It seems, from open office wiki
page, that it should add the format to the search "terms" and that
functionality is indeed broken.

"
To search for specific text with specific formatting (for example, the word
hello in bold), specify the formatting, type the text in the Search for box and
leave the Replace with box blank.

To remove specific character formatting, click Format, select the Font tab,
then select the opposite format (for example, No Bold).

The No Format button on the Find & Replace dialog box clears all previously
selected formats.

Click Find, Find All, Replace, or Replace All.
