RE:[OT]Looking for junior Java/Struts developers ENOUGH!

Okay, OT is okay as far as it goes but lets not turn the struts mailing
list into a forum for the great Sydney/Melbourne rivalry. Please.

Anyway, everyone knows that Canberra is best. :-)

hi!

thanks for the suggestion. that is pretty much what i had decided to do ie

write something and try and market it.
however i'd beg to differ on the weather.
i dont think cold, grey, wet, clammy, uncertain weather qualifies as good
weather esp compared to the sunny predictable weather down here.

Re: [Friday] Java in Aus

Posted by cn...@rayc.brevsville.com.au.
It's pretty simply really.

Working Visa's are granted on he basis of demand for skills, being a
petrol station attendant won't get you a working visa, being a hospitality
worker will.

The jobs market in IT is depressed right, now as just like everyone else,
the IT jobs go to India and China who work for 50c / hour. If you look at the
job ads on the web here in AU (www.seek.com.au) you will see that a large
percentage of them require specilised skills.

Working visa points allocation must follow the demand for skills or what
is the point of it?

Re: [Friday] Java in Aus

Posted by Adam Hardy <ah...@cyberspaceroad.com>.
Since it's Friday, I thought I'd ask you Aussie java guys what the deal
is on this strange points system Australia has for its working visas.

I thought for a few years I'd never meet the target, whenever I thought
about moving to down under. I'm too old, too British, not enough
relatives living there etc etc.

But then I found the Australian visa site and answered several pages of
questions, and then the last one was "Do you have any experience with
Java Security?" - so I clicked the box and with that, it seems I'm
eligible for a visa.

I tried it all again, and without that Java Security experience, your
lovely government wouldn't want me.

What's that all about?
